Oct. 28, 2015 3:02 pm
Iowa's men's basketball team will participate in the inaugural eight-team Cayman Islands Classic in November 2017, the school announced Wednesday.
Joining Iowa in that tournament includes Cincinnati, UAB and Wyoming. All four teams advanced to the NCAA tournament's third round last year with Iowa (Davidson), UAB (Iowa State) and Cincinnati (Purdue) collecting second-round victories. Wyoming lost to Northern Iowa in its NCAA game. The event's dates and the other four teams will be announced at a later time.
Caymax Sports Ltd., runs the tournament in conjunction with Global Sports Management.
In November, Iowa will compete in Orlando's eight-team Advocare Invitational. The Hawkeyes face Dayton in the first round and will play either Notre Dame or Monmouth the second day. Iowa will wrap up the tournament against either Wichita State, USC, Xavier or Alabama.
In 2016, Iowa will play in 2016 Emerald Coast Classic in Destin, Fla. Memphis, Virginia and Providence also compete in the event.
