It’s finally happening. Iowa fans have long clamored for the water tower overlooking Kinnick Stadium to feature the school’s Tigerhawk logo, and it’s coming in 2018.
Iowa made the announcement during Friday’s spring game that the side of the white water tower visible from inside Kinnick will feature a black Tigerhawk logo outlined in gold, while “IOWA” will be featured on the opposite side.
Athletics Director Gary Barta said during an on-field interview that work will begin in June. Cost of the branding project is expected to be $25,000-$30,000.
“Obviously they’re going to have to have their paint brushes moving fast because we’re going to have to have it ready for the first game,” Barta said.
Last year, Iowa added the Tigerhawk logo to midfield with the installation of new turf, another request Iowa fans had constantly made.
“We got the reaction that I thought we might,” Barta said. “Since I arrived 12 years ago, that’s probably one of the most common questions I get, is ‘why can’t we put a Tigerhawk on that water tower?’”
