Iowa has its quarterback for the Class of 2018 recruiting class.
Spencer Petras of Greenbrae, Calif., tweeted his commitment to the Hawkeyes on Friday.
Petras, 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds, committed to Oregon State in May. But Beavers Coach Gary Andersen resigned in October and Petras flipped to Iowa rather than join new coach Jonathan Smith at OSU.
“Through diligent thought, council, and prayers, I have decided to move my commitment from Oregon St. to the Iowa Hawkeyes,” Petras wrote. “I want to thank Coach Smith for continuing to recruit me after being hired. I wish you the best as you move forward. I am very excited to join the Hawkeye family and am grateful to move on from a great high school football culture at MC to join the great culture with the Hawkeye family.
“Thank you Coach (Kirk) Ferentz and (quarterbacks) Coach (Ken) O’Keefe. Go Hawks!”
Petras will enroll at Iowa in January, according to HawkeyeReport. His other Power 5 offers included Cal, Louisville, Syracuse and Nebraska.
Petras is Iowa’s 17th commit in the 2018 class.
The early signing period is Dec. 20-22.
