CEDAR RAPIDS - Dallas Hobbs will indeed play major college football, but he's switching coasts.
The former Cedar Rapids Washington defensive end has decommitted from the University of Connecticut and committed to sign with Washington State, he said Sunday.
The 6-foot-6 Hobbs graduated from Washington in 2016 and is spending a postgraduate year at Deerfield Academy prep school in Connecticut. He earned All-New England honors this past season and was named the All-Central New England Defensive Player of the Year.
Hobbs committed to UConn in mid-December, over offers from Army, Toledo, Dartmouth, Lafayette, Fordham and Holy Cross.
A short time later, Connecticut head coach Bob Diaco was fired. Washington State went 8-5 this past season, losing to Minnesota in the Holiday Bowl.
'I took my official visit this weekend and really liked the feel of the campus,” Hobbs said. 'It was its own little area and had great facilities. I met all the coaches and really liked their style. They're young and energetic. I like the football style going on there.”
