One person dead in accident near Cherry Hill Park

A vehicle that failed to stop at a stop sign resulted in a fatal accident Tuesday afternoon.
According to a press release from the Linn County Sheriff's Office, at 5:49 p.m. emergency responders were called to an accident with injuries at the intersection of E Avenue and Stoney Point Road NW.
There, according to the release, investigators determined that a vehicle traveling east on E Avenue did not stop at a stop sign for Stoney Point Road and struck a vehicle driven by Brianna Jo Collum, 25, of Cedar Rapids.
Collum's vehicle came to rest on Stoney Point Road near the intersection, with Collum receiving no injuries. The vehicle that ran the stop sign continued after the collision east on E Avenue, slid off the road into the north ditch, where it hit a driveway, became airborne, then collided with a tree.
The driver of this vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the driver is being withheld until relatives are notified, according to the release.
The incident is still being investigated by the Linn County Sheriff's Office.
According to the release, responding agencies included Linn County Deputies, Linn County Sheriff's Rescue, Cedar Rapids Police, Atkins Fire and Area Ambulance.
