NORTH LIBERTY - Officials from the North Liberty Police Department say a shooting that took place Monday at the Golfview Mobile Home Court was accidental.
Officers were called to 35 Golfview Drive at 3:15 p.m. Monday for a report of a 19-year-old man who had 'sustained a gunshot wound to his leg,” according to North Liberty police.
'Originally, the victim reported not knowing the gunman,” according to a news release issued Tuesday by the department. 'A witness reported that a black male, wearing a dark colored hoodie, shot the victim with a handgun and fled northeast on foot through the trailer court. During the investigation, it was discovered that the original report was false and this was an accidental shooting.”
The victim remains in stable condition, according to the release.
The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at (319) 358-8477 or the North Liberty Police at (319) 626-5724.
The North Liberty Police Department was assisted by the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, Coralville Police, Iowa State Patrol, Johnson County Ambulance, the Johnson County Attorney's Office and the North Liberty Fire Department.
