Marion man, 44, killed in pickup-train collision

ALBURNETT — A 44-year-old Marion man died Sunday when his pickup truck collided with a train near Alburnett, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Authorities said the crash took place at 1:53 p.m. on Arabian Road near the Canadian National Railroad tracks. According to reports, the man was driving a 2005 Ford pickup, towing a flatbed trailer loaded with a skid steer, westbound on Arabian Road when it drove into the path of a northbound Canadian National freight train.

The truck caught fire from the impact and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, police report. The Linn County Sheriff’s Office is continue an investigation into the crash.

The name of the driver is being withheld pending notification of relatives.

The Alburnett Fire Department, Monroe Township Fire Department, Center Point Ambulance, Lifeguard Air Ambulance, Iowa State Patrol and Linn County Rescue 57 assisted at the scene.
