Motorcyclist killed in collision with van near Springville

SPRINGVILLE - A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a minivan Saturday afternoon near Springville.
According to the Linn County Sheriff's Office, emergency workers responded at 2:28 p.m. to the intersection of Highway 151 and Alderman Road, just east of Springville, on a report that a van and a motorcycle had collided. According to the sheriff's office, the van's driver, James Vratney, 56, of Anamosa, was northbound on Alderman Road and while crossing Highway 151, collided with a southbound motorcycle.
The motorcyclist, whose name was not released pending notification of family, was killed in the collision. Vratney was wearing a seat belt and was uninjured, officials said. The motorcyclist was the only rider on the motorcycle and was not wearing a helmet.
The crash remains under investigation. The Linn County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Marion Police Department, Springville Fire Department and Anamosa Ambulance.
