Fire causes $250,000 damage to Iowa City home; no one hurt

IOWA CITY — A fire early Sunday caused an estimated $250,000 damage to an Iowa City home.

Fire crews were called to 2014 Ridgeway Dr. in Iowa City at 8:14 a.m. Sunday, and upon arrival, found significant fire throughout the basement. A total of 16 firefighters extinguished the blaze in about 30 minutes, according to Iowa City Fire Department Battalion Chief Eric Numberg.

The home’s occupants safely escaped before fire crews arrived. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Iowa City Fire Marshal’s office.
