The Cedar Rapids Police Department has responded to a shooting that injured one person and is continuing to investigate the circumstances behind it.

Cedar Rapids police Sgt. Michelle Omar confirmed that shots had been fired and that police were called to the scene near the intersection of Second Avenue and 15th Street SE at approximately 6:20 p.m.

Omar confirmed the investigation was still active.

“We still have officers on scene,” she said.

A Cedar Rapids police incident report indicated that when officers responded to the scene they found “a female victim that had been shot.” The victim was then transported to St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment of her injuries, according to the report. The report indicated the victim’s identity would be withheld until family members could be notified.

Police say that the investigation continues, but no more information will be released until Tuesday.
