Stacey Walker, Tim Gull claim supervisor victories

CEDAR RAPIDS - Stacey Walker has won in a 3 to 1 margin over former Gazette reporter Dick Hogan for the Democratic nomination for the District 2 seat for the Linn County Board of Supervisors race.

Walker, 28, serves as chairman of the Safe, Equitable & Thriving Communities Task Force. A coalition that addresses community violence in Cedar Rapids.

District 2 covers most of southern Cedar Rapids, including parts of downtown, New Bohemia, College Township, Oak Hill Jackson, and parts of Ely.

There currently are no Republican candidates seeking the seat.

Tim Gull has won in the same 3 to 1 margin over Delma Clarke and Edwin Valladares for the Republican nomination for District 3 Linn County Board of Supervisors seat.

Gull, 53, is the owner of the repair shop Metro Transmission and Auto Repair in Cedar Rapids.

District 3 covers much of northern Cedar Rapids.

The Republican winner in District 3 faces incumbent Democrat Ben Rogers in the Nov. 8 general election. Rogers as been in the seat for eight years.

The Linn County Board of Supervisors is a four-year term that pays a little more than $100,000 a year, and serves as the executive and legislative branch of county government.

The five member board oversees the county's $105 million budget, 800 employees, and fiscal policy, land use planning, zoning, budget appropriations, health and social services needs for Linn County.
