Sierra Club endorses Hogg in U.S. Senate race

May. 24, 2016 4:02 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS - State Sen. Rob Hogg of Cedar Rapids has been endorsed by the Iowa chapter of the Sierra Club to be the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate.
Hogg, first elected to the Iowa Legislature in 2003, has been a vocal climate activist, including helping to create the Climate Change Advisory Council and establishing the Watershed Improvement Review Board. He helped enact multiple tax credits for clean energy including a solar energy credit passed in 2012 that has been expanded twice and supported over 1,800 projects.
'We are confident that he will continue to be a champion in the fight to protect the health and well-being of Iowa's families,” said Carolyn Raffensperger, political chairwoman of Sierra Club Iowa. 'In the Senate, Hogg will continue to protect our air and water, work to expand access to public lands and parks, and take on corporate polluters.”
A Sierra Club member since the early 1990s, Hogg has previously served as chair of Iowa's Cedar-Wapsi group, and in 2007 was awarded the Public Service Award from the Sierra Club Iowa chapter.
Hogg is in a four-way primary with former state lawmakers Bob Krause and Tom Fiegen, and former Lt. Gov. Patty Judge for the Democratic nomination to challenge Sen. Chuck Grassley.
