Iowa City Schools dismissing two hours early today due to heat, humidity

IOWA CITY — Schools in the Iowa City Community School District will be dismissed two hours early today due to high heat and humidity, school officials said.

National Weather Service officials said humidity is expected to reach 91 percent today, prompting Iowa City Schools to dismiss its students from class early.

Temperature will reach a high of 82 degrees, with an overnight low 64, according to the National Weather Service.

The PM East Side Loop bus will begin its afternoon service two hours earlier because of the dismissal, starting on Rochester Avenue at Regina School at 2:05 p.m. For questions on the PM East Side Loop, contact the Transportation and Resource Management Department at (319) 356-5151.

The Cedar Rapids Community School District will be in session all day Thursday, said Marcia Hughes, community relations supervisor at the district.
