The population of Anamosa may increase by tens of thousands of people this weekend as J & P Cycles' two-day open house rally moves back to town after a stop at the Jones County Fairgrounds in 2015.
The 37th annual event will be at the company's retail center off Highway 151. The J & P Cycles Retail Center lease has been renewed and will remain in Anamosa for the foreseeable future.
The open house rally was launched by John and Jill Parham, founders of J & P Cycles, as a small customer appreciation day that attracted 200 to 300 people. Over the decades, the aftermarket motorcycle accessories business grew its customer base and the rally attracted visitors from Canada, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Florida and West Virginia.
There will be motorcycle shows, music concerts, product demonstrations and silent auctions Saturday and Sunday along with complimentary lunches from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.
The Parhams sold J & P Cycles, one of the largest mail-order catalogs and e-commerce websites in the motorcycle parts industry, to Motorsport Aftermarket Group of Oregon more than a decade ago. Oregon-based Motorcycle Superstore joined with J & P Cycles in 2012 to form MAG Retail.
J & P Cycles announced in June 2015 that its warehouse was moving to Louisville, Ky., and administrative offices to Dallas, and it would consolidate call center operations in Ormond Beach, Fla.
