A Coralville restaurant known for its rooftop bar is taking over a Cedar Rapids rooftop.

30Hop, based in Coralville’s Iowa River Landing, will open a second location at 951 Blairs Ferry Road, owners announced Tuesday.

Co-owner Brian Flynn said no opening date is set, but they are aiming for April.

The Blairs Ferry Road restaurant was most recently Axel’s Sports Grill, which closed in January. Before that, it had been Rock Top Bar & Grill.

The current 30Hop owners, Dan Blum, Erik Shewmaker, Matt Swift and Flynn, are part of a restaurant group that owns and operates more than a dozen restaurants in the Corridor, including Pullman, Atlas and Joe’s Place in Iowa City, Big Grove Brewery in Iowa City and Solon and Red’s Alehouse and Tin Roost in North Liberty. This will be their first expansion into Cedar Rapids. Flynn said they have no other Cedar Rapids plans at this time.
