University of Iowa alumni are having a good spring movie season.

The surprise box office success story of the last month has been the horror film “A Quiet Place,” which was written by a pair of Iowa alumni. Surely taking the mantle of box office ruler in its wake this week will be the massive intellectual property juggernaut known as “Avengers: Infinity War,’ a two-part crossover movie event more than 10 years in the making.

Joe Russo, co-director of Infinity War, is also an Iowa alumnus.

The University of Iowa Lecture Committee is welcoming Russo to Iowa City on Monday, April 30, four days after the premiere of Infinity War this Thursday.

According to a media release from the lecture committee, Russo will speak at 7 p.m. at the Englert Theatre, with doors opening at 6 p.m. No tickets will be required for this free event, and seating is limited to a first-come, first-seated basis. Attendees will have the opportunity to win tickets to one of two free screenings of the new movie after the event at Iowa City’s FilmScene Theater.

Speaking of box office hits and Marvel and Iowa City, Hannah Beachler, the production designer behind Marvel’s other recent box office smash ‘Black Panther’ will be in Iowa City this week for Flyover Fest. Information on Beachler’s event can be found here.
