Jack R. Werling, 47, died Thursday, May 21, 2015, at the Jones Regional Hospital, Anamosa, following a battle with gastric cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 28, at the Apostolic Assembly Church, rural Anamosa. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. The Rev. Surviving are his wife, April; seven children, Brittany, Matthew, Jayme, Crisma, Jaquie, DaShaun and Saqua; many other foster children; a grandson, Andrew; his father, Kenneth (Edith) Werling, Amber; and three siblings, Lee (Beckie) Werling, Tucson, Ariz., Roxanne (Shawn) Behrends, Monticello, and Devin (Sheila) Werling, Anamosa.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Judy; and a son, Ronald.
Jack Rae Werling was born Oct. 26, 1967, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was the son of Kenneth and Judy Burnell Werling. Jack attended the Anamosa Community Schools. He then started working as a carpenter. Jack met April Podmore in Las Vegas, Nev., where they lived for six years before moving to Ohio where Jack and April married on June 13, 1996, at Painesville, Ohio. Jack worked for Barnhart Roofing in Monticello and for the past 12 years for Advanced Building Corp. in Cedar Rapids.
He was a member of the Apostolic Assembly and the Men's Ministry. He was also part of the Apostolic "I" Team that helped families in need with building projects and was a part of a couple "Church in a Day projects" where they built complete churches in one day. Jack is known for having a very big heart and would do anything for just about anyone. He will be greatly missed by many.
