Al Streb, I.C. developer, entrepreneur leaves mark on community

IOWA CITY -- Al Streb enjoyed collecting antique Lincoln automobiles, but he will be remembered in Iowa City for the impact he had as a developer and entrepreneur.
Streb, 79, died Friday, Jan. 13, at his home surrounded by his family, the most important part of his life.
Streb developed numerous commercial properties and residential subdivisions including Scott Six Industrial Park and Coral Industrial Park. With his brother, Thomas, Streb developed Golfview Mobile Home Park.
Streb was a past president of the Iowa City Area Homebuilders Association. He also was member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Streb is survived by his wife, Mary Jo, and their eight children, Alene Nevin of Roseville, CA, David (Mindi) Streb of Iowa City, Karen (Darrel) Cordy of Phoenix, Kathryn Streb of North Liberty, Michael (Lori) Streb of Iowa City, Janice (Dan) Chelf of Coralville, Steven Streb of Riverside and Michelle (Terry) Alberts of North Liberty; He also is survived by his brother, Thomas (Linda) Streb of North Liberty and his sister, Marge VeDepo of Iowa City, as well as 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Streb was preceded in death by his parents, John and Agnes Lynch Streb; his son Patrick, and his sister LaBelle Benninghoff.
