Keep an eye on these Gazette area wrestlers during the 2021-22 Iowa high school wrestling season.
Janell Avila, Iowa City West, jr. — Two-time medalist at IWCOA girls’ state tournament, winning the 138 title in 2020 with 19-2 mark, finished sixth last season.
Robert Avila Jr., Iowa City West, sr. — Three-time state champion for Lisbon, won 1A 145 state title with 37-0 record last season, also owns titles at 126 and 132, posted 140-1 career record with 133-match win streak, University of Virginia signee.

Rachel Eddy, Independence, jr. — Two-time IWCOA girls’ state tournament finalist, winning 195 championship with 14-0 mark, ranked 14th nationally at 200.
Hunter Garvin, Iowa City West, sr. — Two-time state champion and three-time finalist, won Class 3A 138 title with 16-0 record last season, earned 132 title as sophomore, 88-7 career mark, 2020 Mississippi Valley Conference Valley Division Wrestler of the Year, Stanford signee.
Blake Gioimo, Cedar Rapids Prairie, jr. — State runner-up at 106 in 3A with a 19-1 record, two-time state qualifier with a 40-19 career mark, first-team all-Metro, second-team all-MVC.
Gavin Jensen, Williamsburg, jr. — State finalist at 106 in 2A, going 45-5, Owns 78-20 overall record.
Keeley Kehrli, East Buchanan, jr. — IWCOA girls’ state tournament runner-up at 152 with a 24-5 record, placed fifth as a freshman.
Ben Kueter, Iowa City High, jr. — Two-time state champion, capturing the 3A 195-pound crown with 11-0 mark, won at 160 in 2020, Junior folkstyle national champion, Junior Nationals runner-up in freestyle, 2020 Super Meet champion and Outstanding Wrestler, 35-0 career record, University of Iowa commit.
Gabe McGeough, MFL MarMac, sr. — Two-time state medalist, placing third at 150 in 1A with 49-3 mark last season, finished fifth at 145 in 2020, owns 104-14 career record, Upper Iowa Conference champion and three-time finalist.
Jaiden Moore, Benton Community, sr. — Two-time state qualifier, placed fourth in 2A at 120 with 33-9 record last season, 2020 state runner-up at 106 in 1A for Don Bosco, Wamac champion, 75-15 over last two season, Coe commit.
Tate Naaktgeboren, Linn-Mar, jr. — Claimed 3A 160-pound state title with 13-0 mark last season, second at 160 as a freshman, all-MVC in 2020, first-team all-Metro, 49-3 career record, Iowa State commit.
Grant O’Dell, Iowa City West, sr. — Three-time state medalist, finishing sixth at 126 in 3A with 14-3 record, placed sixth in 2020 and eighth in 2019, first-team all-MVC, 75-28 career record.
Brandon Paez, Lisbon, jr. — Two-time 120-pound 1A state finalist, claiming title in 2020, posted a 39-2 record last season, career record of 86-8.
Jadyn Peyton, West Delaware, sr. — Three-time state qualifier and two-time medalist, placed third at 152 in 2A with 45-2 record, finished fourth as a freshman, Wamac champion, owns 123-18 career record.
Cade Siebrecht, Lisbon, sr. — Won 1A 126-pound state title with 38-4 mark, three-time state qualifier and two-time state medalist, placing fifth at 113 in 2020, owns 121-27 career record.
Naomi Simon, Decorah, soph. — Claimed Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association girls’ state tournament title at 120 pounds, posting 20-0 record, ranked 13th at 152 pounds nationally.
Samantha Spielbauer, Clayton Ridge, jr. — Won 160 bracket at IWCOA girls’ state tournament with 13-5 record.
Christian Stanek, Cedar Rapids Xavier, sr. — Three-time state medalist, placing third at 145 in 3A with 38-1 record, placed sixth and eighth as a sophomore and freshman, first-team all-MVC and all-Metro, 110-21 career mark.
Hayden Taylor, Solon, sr. — Three-time state champion, won 2A 160 crown with 39-0 record, also owns titles at 126 and 145, two-time Wamac champion, career record of 144-2 with 112-match win streak.
Wyatt Voelker, West Delaware, sr. — Claimed 2A 195-pound championship, going 42-0 last season, three-time state medalist, placed third and fourth, as sophomore and freshman, 121-13 career record, UNI signee.
Isaiah Weber, Independence, sr. — Three-time state finalist, winning the 2A 138 state championship last season, posted 40-1 record, three-time Wamac Conference champion, 139-11 career record.
