A judge has delayed next week’s suppression hearing for a Fairfield teen accused of beating to death his teacher with a baseball bat. Prosecutors asked for the delay, noting defense lawyers would be taking depositions in August that might raise more suppression issues.
A Des Moines psychologist testified in court Friday that Willard Chaiden Noble Miller, 16, is “ripe” for rehabilitation and would benefit from his murder case being moved to juvenile court. Miller and another Fairfield teen are accused of killing their high school Spanish teacher in November.
A psychologist testifying for the defense said Jeremy Goodale, one of the teens accused of killing a Fairfield teacher, could have successful rehab in juvenile court. A juvenile court officer said there is no treatment program for homicide defendants.
Two teenagers accused of killing a Fairfield high school Spanish teacher had their appeals declined by the Iowa Supreme Court on Thursday. They had appealed a decision that would allow the public and the news media to attend a hearing about sending their case to Juvenile Court.
