It’s the final day of the 2022 Iowa high school state track and field championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. There are nine finals in the eight classes (four boys, four girls), plus four wheelchair events.

Boys 4x100 relay
Williamsburg won its second 2A relay of the week (4x200) and swept the girls and boys 4x100s. Cedar Rapids Xavier won the 3A relay by three hundredths of a second over Carlisle. West Des Moines Dowling’s winning 4A time (41.76) ranks fifth all-time.

Class 4A cross country champion Jackson Heidesch of West Des Moines Dowling captured the 4A 1,600 title and still has a run in the 800 to go after an interference ruling during that race earlier Saturday. Dallas Center-Grimes’ Aidan Ramsey won his fourth 3A gold of the week (3,200, distance medley, 800) after winning the 3A cross country title in the fall. Marion’s Shane Erb was runner-up and set a school record. Des Moines Christian teammates Aaron Fynaardt and Carson Houg went 1-2 in their third 2A event this week, with Fynaardt winning this one after taking runner-up in the 3,200 and 800. Saint Ansgar’s Riley Witt completed the 1A 3,200-1,600 double. He was second in the 800.

Sioux City West’s Holly Duax won her third 4A gold of the week (long jump, 200) in a time that ranks No. 2 all-time. 2A 100 champion Jaidyn Sellers added a 200 title as well.

Spirit Lake’s Jack Latham, who set an all-time record in this event in the prelims, won gold for the second straight year. It’s his third title of the week. Lisbon’s Kole Becker repeated in the 1A race, adding 110 hurdles gold to the long jump gold he won this week. Iowa City Liberty’s Eric Lucas won the 4A title. Iowa Falls-Alden sophomore Jaden Damiano swept the 110 and 400 hurdles in 3A.

Sioux City North went 1-2 in the 4A race after winning the 4x800 Thursday. The results weren’t official until an individual rerun for Dowling’s Jackson Heidesch due to an interference call. He ended up third. Aidan Ramsey, the Drake Relays most outstanding performer, won the 3A 800 after claiming the 3,200 and anchoring the winning distance medley earlier this week. Earlham senior Jayden Dickson added an individual title after anchoring the Cardinals’ first-place 1A 4x800 and distance medley relays. Teammate Dominic Braet was third. Des Moines Christian went 1-2 in the 2A 800, just like the 3,200 on Thursday.

Arkansas commit Ainsley Erzen of Carlisle defended her title in 3A. Emma Bock (third) and Kaia Holtkamp (fifth) gave Solon a pair of top-five finishes. Iowa City High’s Ani Wedemeyer pulled away to win a 4A race that featured a 1-2-3 finish from freshmen.
