The girls’ track and field area teams and individuals to watch for the 2023 season:
Teams
Cascade — 5th in Class 2A last season, 33 points (25 return)
Iowa City High — 3rd in Class 4A last season, 46 points (37.75 return)

Lisbon — 9th in Class 1A last season, 25 points (23 return)
Mid-Prairie — Class 2A state champion last season, 65 points (18.5 return)
Solon — Class 3A state champion last season, 84 points (36.5 return)
Williamsburg — 10th in Class 2A last season, 29 points (15.25 return)
Individuals
(with 2022 state-meet accomplishments)
Kennedy Axmear, jr., English Valleys — The Class 1A runner-up in the discus. Won the Drake Relays title in that event.
Gracie Federspiel, jr., Solon — Ran on two Class 3A state-champion relays (4x400 and 4x800). Also fourth in the 400 and fourth in the sprint medley relay.
Danielle Hostetler, jr., Mid-Prairie — Captured the Class 2A championship in the 3,000 meters, and also the distance medley relay. Third in the 1,500, fourth in the 800.
Sarah Jordan, sr., Cedar Rapids Prairie — A member of three Class 4A state-placing relays. First in the sprint medley, second in the 800 relay and third in the distance medley.
Silvana Kabolo, sr., Clear Creek Amana — Placed sixth in the Class 3A 100-meter hurdles, and a member of the Clippers’ champion shuttle hurdle relay.
Lourdes Mason, sr., Lisbon — Fourth in the Class 1A 3,000 and fifth in the 1,500. Ran on the Lions’ fourth-place 3,200-meter relay and their sixth-place distance medley relay.
Lacey Neighbor, sr., Alburnett — The Class 1A runner-up in the long jump. Also a member of the Pirates’ second-place shuttle hurdle relay.
Eva Reynolds, sr., Iowa City High — A member of the Little Hawks’ Class 4A champion in the 1,600-meter relay. Second in the distance medley relay, seventh in the 400 hurdles.
Devin Simon, sr., Cascade — A member of the Cougars’ Class 2A championship shuttle hurdle relay team. Also, second in the 400-meter hurdles, fourth in the 100 hurdles and fifth in the 1,600 relay.
Aly Stahle, soph., Solon — Ran on three relays that placed high: Third in the 400- and 800-meter relays, fourth in the shuttle hurdle.
Sophia Stahle, sr., Solon — Third in the Class 3A 400-meter hurdles. Also, third in the 800-meter relay and fourth in both the shuttle hurdle and sprint medley.
Laura Swart, sr., Mount Vernon — Scored in three Class 3A relays: Third in the 4x800, fourth in the distance medley and fifth in the 4x400.
Addison Swartzendruber, jr., Cedar Rapids Kennedy — Fifth in the Class 4A 400 meters, third in the sprint medley relay.
Sidney Swartzendruber, jr., Cedar Rapids Kennedy — Fourth in the Class 4A 400 meters, third in the sprint medley relay.
Brynn Walters, jr., Western Dubuque — Seventh in the Class 3A 100-meter dash. Also, a member of the Bobcats’ winning sprint medley relay, sixth in the 4x200 and eighth in the 4x100.
Ani Wedemeyer, soph., Iowa City High — Class 4A champion in the 800 meters and 1,600-meter relay. Second in the distance medley relay, third in the 400.
