CEDAR FALLS — Northern Iowa has locked in its 2022 FBS opponent.
The Panthers have agreed to play at Air Force — which was first reported by FBSSchedules.com — on Saturday, Sept. 3 at Falcon Stadium in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
A university official confirmed to The Gazette that Air Force will pay UNI a guarantee of $300,000 to play the non-conference game.
After a couple 5-7 seasons in 2017 and 2018 the Falcons bounced back in a big way last season, going 11-2 and defeating Washington State, 31-21, in the Cheez-It Bowl.
Air Force is a member of the Mountain West Conference and its home venue, Falcon Stadium, seats 46,692.
UNI now has two non-conference games on its schedule in 2022, having previously agreed to host Dixie State on Oct. 15. Its upcoming FBS opponents include Iowa in 2020, Iowa State in 2021 and 2023, and now Air Force in 2022.
The Panthers’ 2022 non-conference matchup at Air Force will be the first ever meeting between the two schools.
