CEDAR RAPIDS The minor league baseball season is in its second week.

As usual, we have a number of players from the Metro, area and University of Iowa who are playing affiliated ball this season. The only major league is Cincinnati Reds outfielder Scott Schebler.

Here is a list of where “our guys” are playing in the minor leagues right now. All statistics are through Friday’s games.

Since last season, former University of Iowa pitchers Blake Hickman and Ryan Erickson have been released by the Chicago White Sox.

JAKE ADAMS (University of Iowa): The powerful first baseman could not have gotten off to a better start, collecting four hits, a home run and seven RBIs for the Fayetteville Woodpeckers (Astros) of the high-Class A Carolina League in their opener against Potomac. Adams has four total hits in six games since then. Overall, he’s 8-for-28 (.296), with two homers and 10 RBIs.

NICK ALLGEYER (Iowa): Pitcher has jumped from Rookie ball to high-Class A Dunedin (Blue Jays) of the Florida State League. He has made two starts, has a 1-1 record and 1.86 earned run average. The lefty has 13 strikeouts in 9.2 innings.

JOEL BOOKER (Iowa): Repeating Double-A Birmingham (White Sox), the 25-year-old outfielder has come out of the gates blazing, with eight hits in his first 22 at-bats, with four RBIs and a couple of stolen bases. That’s a .364 batting average. Booker has two hits in each of his his last two games.

TYLER CROPLEY (Iowa): Catcher was an eighth-round draft pick of the Washington Nationals last season and is in extended spring training, waiting for an assignment to a full-season affiliate, if needed, or to a Rookie-level team when their season’s begin in June.

ZACH DANIELS (Cedar Rapids Kennedy/Iowa): Pitcher begins in extended spring training for the Atlanta Braves. Climbed to low-A Rome at the end of last season, after being drafted by Atlanta in the 19th round.

C.J. ELDRED (Mount Vernon/Iowa): The son of Kansas City Royals pitching coach Cal Eldred has pitched in one game for low-A Lexington (Royals). In one inning, he allowed a hit and struck out two.

NICK GALLAGHER (Iowa City West/Iowa): Right-handed pitcher is dealing to begin the season for high-A Lynchburg (Indians) of Carolina League. In two appearances, he has allowed just one hit in seven innings, struck out 10 and has a victory.

KORRY HOWELL (Kirkwood Community College): Shortstop is in extended spring training for Milwaukee Brewers. He played last season in the Arizona Rookie League, so likely will have to wait to get a Rookie-ball assignement in June.

MITCH KELLER (Cedar Rapids Xavier): Top Pittsburgh Pirates prospect has made two starts for Triple-A Indianapolis, has no record and a 5.19 earned run average. Has allowed 11 hits in 8.2 innings and has struck out nine.

MASON MCCOY (Iowa): It’s an ultra-hot start for the shortstop at high-A Frederick (Orioles) of the Carolina League. McCoy is 15-for-33 (.455), with nine RBIs. Went 3-for-4 Friday and has multi-hit games in five of his last six.

ROBERT NEUSTROM (Iowa): Another Orioles farmhand hitting well in the early going. Outfielder is 11-for-29 at low-A Delmarva of the South Atlantic League with two homers and nine RBIs.

TYLER PEYTON (Iowa): A bad first outing for the relief pitcher, but he has recovered since for high-A Myrtle Beach (Cubs). Has allowed one earned run over five innings after giving up four earned runs in 1.1 innings in the first of his three outings.

A.J. PUK (Cedar Rapids Washington): Lefty pitcher continues to rehab from Tommy John elbow surgery that prevented him from pitching at all in 2018. Word is he’ll be ready to go by midseason or so as one of the Oakland Athletics’ top prospects.

COLIN REA (Cascade): The 28-year-old pitcher signed with the Chicago Cubs in the offseason and is pitching at home (relatively) with the Triple-A Iowa Cubs. Allowed five hits and three earned runs in 4.2 innings in his only start thus far.

NICK ROSCETTI (Iowa): Infielder is back with high-A Carolina (Brewers) to begin the 2019 season. Has played in two games for the Mudcats and is 2-for-8 with a run batted in.

BRADY SCHANUEL (Iowa): Pitcher is in extended spring training with the Milwaukee Brewers.

SCOTT SCHEBLER (Cedar Rapids Prairie): Like most of his Cincinnati teammates, really struggled the first week-plus of the MLB regular season, going 0 for his first 17. He has stabilized things since, and is 7 for 37 overall (.189), with two home runs and four RBIs.

KEATON WINN (Pekin): Two starts thus far for low-A Augusta (Giants) of the South Atlantic League. Has allowed three earned run over eight innings with five strikeouts.
