How former Eastern Iowa preps and Iowa Hawkeyes are doing in pro baseball

A periodic look at how former Cedar Rapids area preps and Iowa Hawkeyes are faring in prep baseball.

Jake Adams (Iowa) — First baseman is off to 5-for-32 (.156) start at high-A Buies Creek (Astros), with two home runs and four RBIs. Also has walked six times. Promoted last week from low-A Quad Cities.

Nick Allgeyer (Iowa) — Recently drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 12th round, the pitcher has been assigned to play for short-season-A Vancouver of Northwest League.

Joel Booker (Iowa) — Outfielder has upped his batting average about 20 points, to .293, in the last week for high-A Winston-Salem (White Sox). Has five homers, 21 RBIs and 14 stolen bases.

Tyler Cropley (Iowa) — Catcher was an eighth-round draft pick of Washington Nationals recently and has been assigned to Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Nationals in Florida.

Zach Daniels (Iowa/Cedar Rapids Kennedy) — Relief pitcher and recent draft pick of Atlanta Braves is expected to be assigned to Rookie-level Danville of Appalachian League. Its season begins Monday.

Matt Dermody (Iowa) — Pitcher remains on the disabled list at Triple-A Buffalo (Blue Jays), where he had a 7.20 earned run average in five relief outings.

Ryan Erickson (Iowa) — Pitcher had arm surgery and is at White Sox complex continuing rehab.

Nick Gallagher (Iowa/Iowa City West) — Pitcher has 1-2 record, a save and 4.04 ERA in 11 games, four starts, for low-A Lake County (Indians) of Midwest League.

Blake Hickman (Iowa) — Reliever has appeared in 16 games for high-A Winston-Salem (White Sox), has no record and 4.88 earned run average. Has 29 strikeouts in 27 2/3 innings.

Mitch Keller (Cedar Rapids Xavier) — Continues bucking for a promotion to Triple-A. Has 7-2 record and 3.25 ERA in 12 starts for Double-A Altoona (Pirates). Has allowed just 59 hits in 72 innings.

Mason McCoy (Iowa) — Back-to-back solid games for the shortstop at Delmarva (Orioles) of low-A South Atlantic League. Had three walks and scored three times against Kannapolis, then went 2-for-5 against West Virginia. Has .241 average in 58 games this season.

Robert Neustrom (Iowa) — The outfielder was a recent fifth-round draft pick of the Baltimore Orioles and made his pro debut Friday night for short-season-A Aberdeen of New York-Penn League, going 1-for-4 with a single.

Nick Roscetti (Iowa) — Infielder is 2-for-10 in three games since promotion to high-A Carolina (Brewers) last week. Hit .326 for Wisconsin of Midwest League.

Tyler Peyton (Iowa) — Relief pitcher is 2-2 with five saves and 2.48 ERA in 19 appearances for high-A Myrtle Beach (Cubs). Gave up four runs and received the loss in his last outing.

Brady Schanuel (Iowa) — Pitcher was a recent 27th-round draft pick of Milwaukee Brewers. He has been assigned to Rookie-level Helena of Pioneer League but has not thrown in a game, yet.

Scott Schebler (Cedar Rapids Prairie) — Cincinnati Reds outfielder has ascended to the top of the batting order. Has .282 batting average this season, with eight homers and 25 RBIs.

Connor Van Scoyoc (Cedar Rapids Jefferson) — The Los Angeles Angels’ 11th-round draft pick will begin his pro career pitching for Arizona Rookie League Angels. Their season begins Monday.
