CEDAR RAPIDS — The long line of female Division-I recruits in the Jefferson High School Class of 2019 has gotten a little longer.
All-state setter Maddy Baxter told The Gazette on Wednesday that she has orally committed to play volleyball at Drake University.
“I visited there (Tuesday), and I knew right away that’s where I wanted to go,” Baxter said. “They made me feel like part of their family.”
A fourth-year starter for the J-Hawks this coming season, Baxter averaged 9.6 assists per set as Jefferson (39-7) won a Mississippi Valley Conference divisional title last year and advanced to the state tournament for the first time in 20 years. She also posted a .626 kill efficiency.
Baxter joins three other J-Hawk senior volleyball players to make Division-I commitments. Kaylee Donner picked Northern Iowa, Raya George selected Tennessee Tech, and Peyton Brokovich chose Northern Florida. Teammate Lindsey Culver will go to South Dakota State to play softball.
