Iowa Class 4A boys' state golf results: Linn-Mar's Dillon Burr in second after first round

Linn-Mar’s Dillon Burr is second after the first round of the Class 4A state golf tournament at Tournament Club of Iowa in Polk City.

Burr, a junior making his state debut, shot 2-over 73 Friday and trails Pleasant Valley’s Jack Roemer by one stroke.

Burr, the Mississippi Valley Conference Valley Division Player of the Year, carded consecutive birdies on the par-3 15th and 16th holes.

Cedar Rapids Washington’s Niles Petersen closed the opening round in a three-way tie for sixth. Petersen posted a 77, leading the Warriors, who were eighth at 335.

Cedar Rapids Kennedy Brock Barnhart shot 82 and is tied for 19th. The Cougars are 10th with 342. Cedar Rapids Xavier is 11th.

Waukee leads the team race with 315, seven shots ahead of second-place Cedar Falls.

The second and final roundis Saturday.
