Coal Flansburg didn’t bother waiting for other offers. The Solon linebacker announced his commitment to Iowa State Tuesday night on Twitter.
Iowa State is Flansburg’s only reported offer on 247Sports and Rivals. He attended Junior Day at Iowa in March.
Flansburg, 6-foot-2 and 230 pounds, is a 3-star recruit in the 247Sports composite. Rivals gives him 2 stars. Flansburg is the No. 61-ranked inside linebacker by 247Sports, which ranks him the 12th-ranked Class of 2019 recruit in Iowa.
Flansburg piled up 42 tackles, including five for loss and and two sacks up as Solon (11-1) reached the Class 3A state semifinals in 2017. He also picked off three passes, two of which he returned for touchdowns, and was named to the Gazette all-area team.
The Spartans pitched six shutouts last fall and allowed just 72 points all season, 35 of which came in a semifinal loss to eventual state champion Cedar Rapids Xavier. Iowa defensive line signee Tyler Linderbaum was also a member of that vaunted defense.
Flansburg is Iowa State’s eighth Class of 2019 commitment and the third from the state of Iowa, joining Bettendorf wide receiver Darien Porter and West Des Moines Valley offensive lineman Jake Remsburg.
