Iowa high school football rankings: Little change atop polls as season enters its final week

It's still Valley, Xavier, PCM, DNH, Hudson and Ar-We-Va at No. 1

Benton Community's Nathan Michels (84) pulls in a pass around West Marshall's Chase Burr (30) during their game Friday at Van Horne. The Bobcats won, 34-13, and moved up a spot to No. 6 in Class 2A in this week's Gazette/KGYM football poll. (Stephen Mally/The Gazette)

One more week.

The Iowa high school football season has reached its final week, with no change among the leaders in the Gazette/KGYM football poll.

West Des Moines Valley, Cedar Rapids Xavier, Monroe PCM, Dike-New Hartford, Hudson and Ar-We-Va retain the No. 1 rankings in their respective classes.

Xavier and PCM are unanimous among the six panelists.

Valley maintains a comfortable lead over Ankeny Centennial and Cedar Falls in the 4A poll. West Des Moines Dowling is fourth, followed by Johnston, which leapfrogged Bettendorf for the No. 5 slot.

Xavier and Lewis Central have been the class of 3A all season; the Saints and the Titans have been 1-2 all season. North Scott, Solon and Sergeant Bluff-Luton remain 3-4-5.

PCM, Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley, Algona and Waukon are still the top four in 2A. Union Community and Benton Community climbed to 5 and 6 after Benton’s win last week over West Marshall.

The order, from 1 through 10, stays the same this week in 1A. DNH, which faces perennial power Iowa City Regina in a district-championship game Friday, is followed by West Sioux, Van Meter, South Central Calhoun and Bellevue.

Hudson continues to pace the Class A pack. Algona Garrigan, Avoca AHSTW and Belmond-Klemme are the next three, and North Tama moves into the top five after BGM lost last week to Durant.
