Jason Bohannon, Dennis Geraghty named to IHSAA basketball hall of fame

CEDAR RAPIDS — Jason Bohannon and Dennis Geraghty are two of nine people to be inducted later this winter in the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s Basketball Hall of Fame, it was announced Monday.

Bohannon helped Linn-Mar win a state championship in 2004 and to a runner-up finish in 2005 and fourth-place finish in 2006. He was Iowa’s Mr. Basketball in 2006, then went on to play four years at the University of Wisconsin and professionally in Europe.

Geraghty retired from coaching after the 2017-18 season. He won 500 games in 39 seasons at numerous schools, including Tipton, Dubuque Hempstead, Creston, Parkersburg, Preston, West Delaware and Western Dubuque.

His West Delaware team in 2000 and Western Dubuque team in 2012 were state runners-up.

Others selected for the Hall of Fame are Coach Ken Laffoon (Danville) and players Nick Collison (Iowa Falls), Kirk Hinrich (Sioux City West), Kyle McCann (Creston), Dennis Pauling (Paullina), Grant Stout (North Mahaska) and Brian Wildeboer (Colo-NESCO).

This year’s Hall of Fame class will be honored during the 2019 boys’ state tournament, on March 8.
