Iowa high school girls' basketball 2019 regional brackets: 4A, 5A

Regular-season games have been few and far between lately due to the weather, but Class 4A and Class 5A teams can now start keeping an eye on the postseason.

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released regional pairings Thursday for the larger two classes.

Regional play in 4A and 5A tips off Wednesday, Feb. 13, with the finals set for Tuesday, Feb. 19. Winners advance to the state tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines from Feb. 25-March 2.

Regional Brackets

Class 4A

Class 5A

Top-ranked Iowa City High will host Muscatine in a 5A Region 1 semifinal on Saturday, Feb. 16. No. 15 Bettendorf is the second seed in that region.

Defending state champion Iowa City West, ranked No. 10, opens 5A Region 7 play against the winner of Linn-Mar and Cedar Rapids Jefferson. Seventh-ranked Waukee potentially awaits on the other side of the bracket.

No. 4 Cedar Rapids Prairie hosts Cedar Rapids Kennedy in a Region 4 semifinal. No. 13 Urbandale is a favorite on the other side of the bracket.

Cedar Rapids Washington slipped to No. 12 in this week’s rankings and will take on the winner of Waterloo West and Dubuque Senior in Region 5. No. 5 West Des Moines Valley is the favorite in that region.

Last year’s 4A state champion, No. 1 and undefeated Marion, is in Region 7 and will host either Washington (Iowa) or Oskaloosa in a semifinal. The second seed in that region is Fairfield.

No. 13 Cedar Rapids Xavier was placed in Region 5 along with sixth-ranked DeWitt Central. The Saints start with Western Dubuque or Iowa City Liberty.

Regional pairings for 1A, 2A and 3A were released last week.
