CEDAR RAPIDS — It was a short but chaotic boys’ basketball week in Class 3A.

Seven of last week’s top-10 ranked teams lost at least once, including No. 1 Maquoketa. That means your new top team in the class is Sergeant Bluff-Luton.

The Warriors (12-3) handed Class 4A No. 4 Sioux City East its first loss last week, which was more than good enough to move up from second. All three of SBL’s losses have been to good 4A teams: East once and Sioux City West twice.

Clear Lake (15-0) is the last unbeaten team in 3A, and it goes from third to second. Maquoketa (14-1), which lost Saturday afternoon to Marion, 53-47, goes from first to third.

Your other No. 1s remain the same: North Scott in Class 4A, North Linn in 2A and Grand View Christian in 1A. North Scott and North Linn (both 15-0) are two of 12 undefeated teams left in the state.

The rest of the top five in 4A is Waukee (13-0), Bettendorf, Davenport Central and Dubuque Senior. Norwalk and Pella join Sergeant Bluff-Luton, Clear Lake and Maquoketa in the 3A top five.

After North Linn in 2A, it’s South Hamilton, Boyden-Hull, West Sioux and Treynor. Grand View Christian (16-1), which has lost only to 4A No. 7 Iowa City West, is a very solid No. 1 in 1A, followed by Ankeny Christian, Montezuma, New London and Ar-We-Va, who have a combined record of 61-0.

Below are this week’s entire Gazette rankings, with last week’s ranking in parentheses. Weather played havoc on the schedule the past two weeks and promises to do the same this week, with several likely postponements.
