CEDAR RAPIDS — Week 3 of The Gazette’s boys’ basketball rankings sees a pair of new No. 1s.

North Scott is your new top-ranked team in Class 4A. The Lancers (6-0) replace Iowa City West, which lost this past Friday night at Linn-Mar, 65-54.

Three other teams dropped out of the 4A rankings because of losses: Des Moines Hoover, Dubuque Senior and Des Moines North. Entering the rankings for the first time are Cedar Rapids Prairie (8th), Sioux City West (9th) and Cedar Falls (10th).

Oskaloosa remains a strong No. 1 in Class 3A, though the rest of the class remains a largely jumbled mess. Maquoketa (7-0) and West Delaware (6-0) are ranked second and third, respectively, and just happen to play each other Tuesday night at Manchester.

Clear Lake (6-0) jumped into the rankings this week, all the way up to fourth because six teams ranked last week lost at least once. Dubuque Wahlert (4-1) joins the 3A rankings at No. 6, with Cedar Rapids Xavier falling from ninth to 10th and Marion out.

The new top-ranked team in Class 2A is an old one. Western Christian (3-1) reassumes the top spot after South Hamilton, last week’s No. 1, was beaten by Gilbert, 70-65.

The rest of the top five in 2A is, in order, Camanche, North Linn, Treynor and South Hamilton.
