5A No. 11 Cedar Rapids Prairie 57, Linn-Mar 39

It didn’t come as easily as it did the first time, but it still came for the Cedar Rapids Prairie girls’ basketball team.

Sarah Schmitt scored 19 points, including five 3-pointers, as the 11th-ranked Hawks brushed past Linn-Mar, 57-39, Friday night at Prairie.

Prairie (11-5) finally eased away in the second half to win this one semi-comfortably. It was just 28-22 at half.

The Hawks won the first encounter between these teams by a 63-27 margin. That was the beginning of what is now a 10-game losing streak for Linn-Mar (2-16).

Mallory McDermott added 11 points for Prairie.

Freshman post Keegan Krejca had 13 points and guard Ally Johnson 12 for Linn-Mar.

4A No. 1 Marion 53, 4A No. 5 Center Point-Urbana 50

This was the eighth time Chloe Rice has played against Center Point-Urbana, and she had a pretty good idea how the Stormin’ Pointers would defend the biggest play of the game.

Rice converted a three-point play with 26 seconds left to give Marion the lead for good, and the Class 4A top-ranked Indians outlasted No. 5 Center Point-Urbana, 53-50, in a Wamac Conference West Division girls’ basketball dandy Friday night at Marion High School.
