IOWA CITY — Iowa’s men’s basketball team finished the season ranked for the first time in 10 seasons.
The Hawkeyes (22-11) ended the year ranked No. 25 in the final USA Today/Coaches poll, which was released on Tuesday. Iowa last cracked the top 25 in 2006, when it finished No. 23. The Hawkeyes beat Temple in overtime to open NCAA tournament play, then were beaten by eventual national champion Villanova. Iowa received votes after the 2015 season.
Iowa State (23-12) finished the season ranked No. 15 after advancing to the Sweet Sixteen. The Cyclones beat Iona and Arkansas-Little Rock before losing to Virginia.
Northern Iowa (22-12) received votes in the final poll after topping Texas on a buzzer-beater in the NCAA tournament opener before falling to Texas A&M in double overtime.
Other Big Ten teams in the final top 25 include No. 7 Michigan State, No. 9 Indiana, No. 12 Maryland, No. 19 Purdue and No. 23 Wisconsin.
