It was a fun spring.
We talked with each Iowa assistant coach. We had excellent convos and football discussion (real football discussion, it feels so good). And we saw a glimpse of the team last Friday night.
In that regard, it’s been a great spring. I’d characterize the Hawkeyes’ spring as positive. There was just one ACL injury and it was a non-two-deeper at linebacker (Colten Dinsdale). The next wave of early NFL entries got in good work … against each other. DE A.J. Epenesa vs. OT Alaric Jackson was the featured bout of Friday night’s scrimmage. AJE has “little man” moves and details to his game. He’s got moves we haven’t seen yet. He also called Jackson the “best pass setting” O-tackle in the Big Ten.
We talked Friday night’s scrimmage. The slot receiver hype train is a thing. Nico Ragaini and Tyrone Tracy look strong in that spot. The secondary was injury riddled but still managed three picks. Center Tyler Linderbaum is the starter. I guess Kirk Ferentz didn’t exactly say that. He said, “He’s going to be tough to beat out.”
We kind of like D.J. Johnson at the cash position. Feels like that one’s going to stick.
Also, we talk about what Iowa’s defense could get out of a standup defensive end, something the Hawkeyes unveiled on Friday night.
Scott and I are probably taking next week off. May is going to be hit and miss with lots of fishing to fit in.
