Linn-Mar's Sarsfield Commits to Iowa
Linn-Mar freshman Coy Sarsfield announced Thursday that he plans to play baseball for the University of Iowa.

Sarsfield has served as the table setter for the Lions, hitting in the leadoff spot. Sarsfield is hitting .419 with a .543 on-base percentage. He has 31 hits and 34 runs. Sarsfield’s quickness has caused opponents fits, stealing 26 bases in 29 attempts. He has a knack for putting the ball in play, striking out just three times in 74 official at-bats.
Sarsfield opened the week by going 4-for-8 in a doubleheader against Dubuque Senior. He added four runs and five stolen bases.
Vaske's hot bat
Dyersville Beckman senior Joel Vaske was red-hot at the plate in the first three doubleheaders this week.

Vaske went 11-for-17 with seven walks and 10 RBIs. He has six extra-base hits, including three doubles and a triple, and has totaled 22 total bases during the stretch that started Monday.
Vaske powered up in the nightcap of Wednesday’s doubleheader against Marion at Jenk Field. He hit two home runs, driving in three runs and scoring three.
Entering Friday night’s games against Williamsburg, Vaske was hitting .432 with a .557 on-base percentage. He has 41 hits, including six doubles, five triples and five home runs with 36 RBIs.
Goodman on the mound
Western Dubuque’s Sam Goodman posted a no-hitter and out-dueled Solon’s Ryan Geistkemper for a 1-0 decision in the first game of the Bobcats’ doubleheader sweep Monday in Farley.
Goodman stifled the Spartans' potent lineup, striking out seven and walking none in the 83-pitch effort.
Goodman was driven in by Kyle Lehman for the game’s lone run.
Solon sophomore Lucas Walker recorded a no-hitter of his own against Benton Community.
He helped the Class 3A fourth-ranked Spartans to a 5-0 victory in the opener of a doubleheader sweep at Van Horne on Wednesday.
Walker threw a complete game, striking out one, walking four and tallying 102 pitches. Walker improved to 4-1 with a 1.69 earned run average.

Cedar Rapids Xavier pitched a pair of surprising 1-0 shutouts on the road Monday, sweeping Class 4A third-ranked Cedar Rapids Prairie.
In the opener, Ryan Hosch and Braden Albert combined for the victory, allowing just five hits. Casey O’Donnell scored the only run.
In the nightcap, Ben Kisting threw all eight innings for the Saints, scattering six hits. Gabe Lux drove in Quinn Schulte for the winning run.
Xavier followed the sweep with a 15-8 victory over 4A No. 7 North Scott on Wednesday.
The final regular season matchup between the Tri-Rivers Conference's top three teams will be held Monday. Class 1A fifth-ranked Alburnett will head to No. 2 Lisbon. Entering Friday’s action, Lisbon was 22-0 in the conference. 1A third-ranked North Linn is second at 20-2, falling to Lisbon twice and beating Alburnett twice, and the Pirates are third with 17-2 mark.
In a makeup of a previous rainout, Cedar Rapids Prairie will host Cedar Rapids Jefferson in a doubleheader Saturday, July 7. The Hawks lead the Mississippi Valley Conference Valley Division. Jefferson is second in the MVC Mississippi, one game back of Xavier.
