CEDAR RAPIDS — The Midwest League announced rosters for the upcoming MWL All-Star Game, and three Cedar Rapids Kernels are included.
Outfielder LaMonte Wade and second baseman Luis Arraez have been named starters for the Western Division team. Pitcher Sam Clay also has been named to the Western Division club.
Wade is hitting .318 in 48 games for the Kernels, with six doubles, three triples, four home runs and 27 RBIs. He has walked 38 times and struck out just 22, with 179 official at-bats.
Arraez has a .317 average in 40 games, with 10 doubles, a triple, two homers and 15 RBIs. He has struck out just 18 times in 161 official at-bats.
Clay went into his start Tuesday night against Kane County with a 3-2 record and 2.13 earned run average in nine starts. He has allowed just 37 hits in 50 2/3 innings, with 55 strikeouts.
As host of the game, the Cedar Rapids Kernels coaching staff of Jake Mauer (manager), J.P. Martinez (pitching coach) and Brian Dinkelman (hitting coach) will serve as Western Division coaching staff. The 52nd All-Star Game is Tuesday, June 21, at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids.
