Letters to the Editor

You are known by the company you keep

“Don’t believe what you read or hear” unless, of course, it comes from me. This could have come from George Orwell’s book “1984” or from some tinhorn dictator in a banana republic, but it didn’t. It came from your president, Donald J. Trump.

I wondered how anyone still could support Trump until I found, by talking to Trump supporters, that they no longer watch the news shows which they had watched all their lives. This includes ABC, NBC, CBS and the local news because what they are reporting does not comport with their view of Trump. They are now limited to Fox News, Rush Limbaugh and right-wing websites. Sad!!

To see something pathetic, and scary, tune in a Trump campaign rally like in Tampa, Fla. After 15 minutes of Trump attacking the “fake media” and putting down his number one foil, CNN, the crowd began yelling “CNN sucks.” Video showed one man wearing a T-shirt which said, “F#*% the media” and a “lady” coming to the barrier and demonstrating her IQ by holding up her middle finger. The rest of this rabid mob was no more sophisticated.

You are known by the company you keep, so try as you might to pretend otherwise, this is the company you are keeping when you continue to defend Trump. The truth is coming and unless the Republican congress is successful in covering it up, as they have been trying, we will know the truth. Then we will see how much their “Faustian bargain” was worth.
