Can’t anyone drive straight anymore? The Republicans are driving into the “Right Ditch” and some Democrats want to grab the wheel and turn hard left. Correcting too fast, or too far, is not the answer.
We need a change from tax cuts and credits causing budget problems. We need to end Medicaid privatization, improve mental health services, adequately fund public and higher education and restore respect for our residents and for political offices. What Republicans are doing is not working.
Participation in the electoral process is the only way we will elect people who can keep us out of the ditch. With seven Democrats on the primary ballot for governor in June, the chances of any of them getting the 35 percent needed to move onto the general election ballot is slim. The choice then goes to a handful of the most extreme members of the party, elected at their caucuses and conventions who will, once again, pull us hard right or left.
As an independent, a discouraged Republican or a moderate Democrat, you can make a difference by voting in the Democratic primary on June 5. You can register as a Democrat and change back later if you desire.
Look at all the candidates and vote for the one who best exemplifies your values, can balance a budget and has shown he cares for Iowa and Iowans. Vote for someone who can win in November and keep us out of the ditch. Someone like Fred Hubbell.
