Letter writer Pete Larson (Nov. 5), while disparaging “dystopian Democrats” for proposing things like health care for all, free college and gun control, says President Donald Trump has delivered on “promises made” and “promises kept.” That’s strange. I thought Trump promised the immediate repeal of Obamacare and passage of a “beautiful health plan” that would deliver better and cheaper care for all. I thought he promised a “beautiful border wall” that Mexico would pay for. I thought he promised a “beautiful infrastructure program” that would fix our decaying roads, bridges, locks and dams.
But the biggest promise Trump made was to end American “carnage.” And what’s happened since his election? Suicide rates have gone up — especially among young people and our farmers! Opioid overdose deaths have gone up! Life expectancy rates have fallen! And mass shootings?
Well, you know the story here folks — they’ve become daily news.
These are facts Trump supporters like Larson can’t ignore. But they should ask themselves a further question: Why has Trump — unlike every other president in recent history — refused to disclose (as he promised) his tax returns? What exactly is he trying to hide? The sources of his income? The fact that he pays no taxes? Come on people, wake up!
