Too much time and pavement goes to sidewalks

I can tell you why it is taking so long for our city streets to be repaired. The crews are having to spend most of the time not working on the streets but rather taking out perfectly good sidewalks to just add back on. But rather than the standard-sized sidewalk (which is handicap size) they are making them six feet wide.

Just around my house I have watched them take down five to six mature trees for these sidewalks, and have spent several days digging out the hillside yards to make room. Since they are widening the sidewalks everyone gets at least one half of a newly paved driveway.

Why don’t the city leaders stick with what citizens voted for — use the road tax money for the roads. All that cement used on new driveways and extra wide sidewalks would be better utilized for the extremely deteriorated streets.
