There's still time to save solar energy in Iowa

I moved to Iowa last summer, and it seems to me most Iowa lawmakers are anti-small business, choosing to align themselves with “corporate mega-giant” MidAmerican Energy.

MidAmerican appears to have profited $2.7 billion though the sale of energy. For it to try and drive out small solar companies, who are local electricians, is pure greed.

Not long ago, in my then-homestate, the Colorado CPU was loaded with corporate energy enthusiasts and quite actively trying to kill solar energy in Colorado. Thank goodness Coloradoan’s fought back! Now they have a solar-friendly commission. Pro solar, pro clean energy.

If we let MidAmerican win this, Iowa solar will crash. Solar companies with shrivel up, most will be functionally dead and farmers will no longer be able to buy and save money with solar panels. Job labor loss could be as high as $10 million.

MidAmerican’s parent company is partly owned by Warren Buffett. That company, Birkshire Hathaway, is notorious for trying to kill solar industries in Nevada and Utah. It took Nevada years to recover. MidAmerica wants to rule the energy market and they don’t play fair.

There still is time to save Iowa Solar — if you act now.
