The president is failing in his health crisis response

This administration’s reaction and handling of the coronavirus crisis is disgusting.

It was evident from the first U.S. death on January 21 that this disease had the potential to spread easily and on a large scale. But rather than confer with medical experts, ramp up production of test kits by both government and private firms, test high risk individuals, and develop plans, the Trump administration sought to down play the seriousness of the situation in tweets, official statements, and via commentators on Fox. Trump even called it a “hoax” perpetrated by Democrats!

Now faced with a tidal wave of undeniable cases, President Donald Trump is handling this with an eye on how this impacts him. He didn’t want to allow the Grand Princess cruise ship to dock because “it would make his numbers look bad.” At a recent tour of the CDC he was more interested in promoting himself by wearing a MAGA hat and touting his “smarts” at the news conference afterward. In a recent interview on CNN, the Surgeon General towed the party line by refusing to say how many tests are available or have been done. While on Fox recently, Trump commented on his ratings in general and on that show right then in particular.

And with Wall Street now faltering, he seeks to prop up financial markets rather than promote steps to deal with this health crisis. Tax cuts won’t cure this disease! More than ever, this man is not equipped to lead our nation.
