During the coronavirus pandemic things we took for granted have become more complicated, including voting. My candidate for the state house, Lonny Pulkrabek, supports actions state and county officials are taking to ensure voter safety during the election.
It includes encouraging voters to vote by mail, and following recommendations from the Iowa Department of Public Health and Centers for Disease Control regarding use of personal protective equipment at poll sites. This is a bipartisan effort. No one wants a voter to get sick because they voted in person or by mail.
Voting should always be safe and accessible.
The issue with the Republican-controlled legislature is their continuous tightening of requirements to vote even though voter fraud cases have been a negligible percentage of total votes cast. Voting should be accessible to anyone who is eligible period.
To maintain a balance in the legislature regarding access to the ballot we need more Democratic state representatives to gain a Democratic House majority.
That begins in House District 73 by electing Lonny Pulkrabek on Nov. 3.
