Nixon was innocent and so is Trump

When Democrats win the White House, their opponents accept the outcome, go along to get along, and resolve to try harder next time. When Democrats lose, they and their supporters stage petulant tantrums and do all they can to sabotage their opponent’s administration. Their crowning achievement was the destruction of Richard Nixon’s presidency, which they artfully maneuvered into an impeachment trap resulting from a crime committed by his 1972 reelection campaign staff — without his knowledge.

Nixon’s real sin? He was an outsider, not of the genteel Ivy League aristocracy. Further, he was hated for helping bring down, years prior, the Soviet spy and leftist darling, Alger Hiss. Cunning prosecutors, colluding with an ethically-flawed federal judge and a brazenly partisan Congress, would exact their revenge, aided by complicit media lackeys shoving a relentless propaganda drumbeat onto the public mind. Clearly, Washington’s Trumpophobes are desperate to erect Watergate 2.0 against another resented outsider trespassing on their turf. Frustrated by the insufficiency of a rogue FBI/CIA dirty tricks war on Donald Trump’s campaign and the quixotic Mueller hunt for Russian witches, they have plopped their chips on a pair of nonsensical Articles of Impeachment with more, presumably, to follow from this parade of foolishness.

It is long past time for adults to enter the room and restore maturity. Eastern Iowans can do their part by electing Ashley Hinson to the House of Representatives.
