Missing candidates scrap all by one LWV forums

The League of Women Voters invites you to virtually attend the only LWV Linn County Candidate Forum, co-sponsored by The Gazette, that will be held before the November 3 election. That forum, with House District 66 candidates Art Staed and Barrett Hubbard, will be on Monday, Sept. 28, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Questions from the public are requested. Please submit your questions by Sunday, Sept. 27. The public can both submit a question and watch the forum at thegazette.com. The forum will be recorded and remain on the site.

The League does not hold “empty chair” forums, where only one candidate agrees to participate, as the League is non-partisan, and neither endorses nor opposes political candidates. Unfortunately, in all of the other Linn County races, one of the candidates did not accept the invitation to participate:

Linn County Board of Supervisors: John Stuelke, accepted and Louie Zumbach declined.

House District 68: Molly Donahue accepted and Lou Rogers declined.

House District 67: Eric Gjerde accepted and Sally Ann Abbot did not respond.

House District 95: Christian Andrews accepted and Charlie McClintock did not respond.

House District 70: Tracy Ehlert accepted and Myra Makejka did not respond.

If you are concerned that candidates are unwilling to participate in a non-partisan forum, open to all, then I strongly encourage you to express that concern to the candidates directly.

Jean McMenimen

President

League of Women Voters Linn County
