Marion doesn't need new city buildings

After years of debate over a new library, it only proves we really don’t need more room for day care. I was a council member when the library was built in 1996, it was designed to be remodeled. We don’t need to destroy the newest building uptown to build more apartments. Look at the old Econofoods and Drugtown, both have been beautifully repurposed. We can do the same with the library.

The city is giving millions of hotel-motel tax to build a new “regional “ YMCA. It’s not a “city” affiliated entity why are the taxpayers responsible for the cost of the construction? If the city’s objective is to draw the users to Marion after their workout, think again.

The city has now announced we will need more space in the new city hall. The Chamber of Commerce can move! They are not part of the city even though they count on thousand of dollars of Hotel Motel money to run their operation. The Water department can also find new quarters. They are their own utility and the council has no say in their day to day operations. They have their own board and are independent of any city input.

Council, you can do better!
