In today's politics, heaven help the people

Politics is at an all-time low. Watching the Senate Judiciary Committee proceedings has proved a huge disappointment.

To quote Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, “This is the most unethical scam.” While I have reservations about Brett Kavanaugh’s appointment, I absolutely agree with Kavanaugh that ”this is a circus.”

I cannot begin to express my dismay and loss of confidence in our elected officials and the political process, particularly when considering someone for a lifetime appointment to our highest court. What message are we sending to the public, particularly American women? We see daily reports of lies and corruption involving high-level individuals with the power to make decisions that affect American lives.

Look at the number of people marching in protest of this appointment. For the average American, it is painfully clear we hold little power or influence because our elected officials are not listening to “we the people.”

People say a difference can be made at the polls, by making our voices heard. However, from my perspective, particularly following Citizens United, it seems unless you can donate large amounts to a like-minded candidate, you have little to no influence. Where does this leave the average American? In my view, with little power or hope for our future and the future of our children and grandchildren.

God bless America … but heaven help the people.
