Two years ago, Ashley Hinson campaigned as a moderate and won House District 67. Her website’s “Vision” page still looks moderate, but her record no longer is.
Hinson campaigned on strengthening our world-class public education system. Instead, she settled for anemic funding increases to K-12 programs. She attacked the livelihoods of our children’s teachers by gutting collective bargaining law. She slashed higher education funding mid-year, forcing universities to halt construction and close centers.
Hinson said, “I think the government should stay out of women’s healthcare decisions, typically.” Instead, she blocked funding to women’s healthcare providers and cast the critical fifty-first vote on an unconstitutional abortion ban. Strange that she hasn’t explained either vote to her constituents.
If re-elected, Hinson’s partisan record shows she’ll embrace the Iowa GOP platform. This platform includes: Banning abortion (with absolutely no exceptions), destroying all public sector unions, denying “alleged global warming”, redirecting public school funds to private schools, and repealing gay rights (including marriage).
Collectively, the people of this district are not hard-core conservatives. We need a representative who isn’t one, either. We need a representative who shares our values: Honesty, fairness, and working together.
We need Eric Gjerde for House District 67.
